
Fokion Fotiadis will serve as director general for development at the European Commission starting July 1.
Fotiadis succeeds Stefano Manservisi, who will be transferred to the newly-created Directorate General for Home Affairs, according to Europolitics.
A Greek national, Fotiadis is the chief of the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. He has also served the Directorate-General for External Relations (RELEX) as deputy director-general in 2006, and director for Asia from 2001 to 2005.
He was in charge of the European Neighbourhood Policy, Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus, Central Asia, Middle East and South Mediterranean while serving as RELEX’s deputy director-general.
