The European Commission has appointed Joao Vale de Almeida as the new head of the European Union’s delegation to the United States. The Portuguese, who is the current EU external relations director general, will take over the post vacated by John Bruton in October 2009 over “the next months following host country agreement procedures,” according to the commission.
