Organizations working on family planning suffered a major setback this year when the United States, which accounts for 41% of donor government funding to family planning programs, or around $600 million per year, slashed its funding in early 2025. But more funding cuts could be coming.
The U.S., the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Germany accounted for 83% of all donor government funding for family planning between 2020 and 2024, according to a new report by Family Planning 2030, based on analysis by the KFF.
Yet future funding from these donors is looking uncertain.
