The Demographic and Health Surveys, or DHS, program is one of the casualties of the Trump administration’s ongoing dismantling of the United States Agency for International Development.
The program, which has been running since 1984, collects and publishes data on HIV/AIDS, malaria, nutrition, family planning, maternal and child health, gender, and fertility through over 400 surveys in more than 90 countries.
It’s considered a critical data set, with a vast community of users globally, which helps countries and researchers understand health needs and population trends in low- and middle-income countries.
