Tribal people in India’s remote northeast plan to honor former U.S. Vice President Al Gore with an award for promoting awareness on climate change that they say will have a devastating impact on their homeland. Khasi tribe members in Meghalaya state said honoring Gore would help highlight the problems their tiny region faces. The chieftains have invited him to their village for the Oct. 6 award ceremony which they expect 300,000 local people to attend. A spokeswoman said Gore was “very humbled” but did not know if he could attend the ceremony. (Reuters)
