Latin America is getting less attention from traditional donors in North America, including a decrease in the number of grants these institutions offer for development projects. What types of innovative financing mechanisms are on the rise in Latin American and among IDB’s partners?
Devex spoke with Bernardo Guillamon, manager of the Inter-American Development Bank’s office of outreach and partnerships, at the bank’s 2013 gathering in Panama City, about the growth of impact investing and private companies funding more development projects and including development objectives in their business plans.
Guillamon explained how his office of outreach and partnerships did $3.8 billion in business this year, compared to just over $1 billion when the office started in 2008.
