MSF Forms New International Governance Bodies

    By Ivy Mungcal // 05 July 2011

The international medical aid group Medecins Sans Frontieres has adopted new statutes as part of a process to reform its associative governing bodies.

In a meeting of its existing 19 associative bodies, the group agreed to create an international board and international general assembly that will be in charge of safeguarding MSF’s medical humanitarian mission and identity, the organization said in a July 1 news release.

“The objective of this reform of MSF’s international governance is to maintain and improve on MSF’s effectiveness and efficiency in providing medical humanitarian assistance to those in need,” said Unni Karunakara, MSF’s international president. “MSF International will now be more inclusive and open to new associations emerging in regions where we work, especially in Africa, Latin America, and Asia.”

MSF’s new International General Assembly is set to meet for the first time in December 2011 in France to elect members of the international board and mark MSF’s 40th founding anniversary.
