Two Afghan staff members of Oxfam GB and a local community volunteer were killed in a roadside bomb attack in the province of Badakhsan in northeastern Afghanistan.
Oxfam GB said in a statement that it has temporarily suspended all operations in the province because of the attack, which also caused injuries to one other staff member and another community volunteer.
“We have temporarily suspended operations in Badakhshan and are reviewing all security measures and protocols. At present, Oxfam has no plans to discontinue its work in Afghanistan,” the Oxfam GB statement read.
The incident is the latest in a series of attacks on aid workers in Afghanistan’s northern region.
As Devex reported, 10 health workers, including eight foreigners, were found dead in Badakshan in early August. The incident was condemned worldwide as the worst crime against humanitarian workers in Afghanistan.
