    Opinion: Boosting Africa clinical trials is crucial for health equity

    Building trust, improving access, and providing continuity of care are key to increasing clinical trials in Africa.

    Africa has the greatest disease burden in the world at about 25%. Despite this, less than 3% of clinical trials are conducted on the continent. This is a significant missed opportunity.

    I saw some of the challenges researchers face when speaking with colleagues across the African continent. After attending the Women of Color in Pharma Global Summit in Nairobi, and visiting clinical trial sites to speak with site investigators, I developed a clearer vision of what pharmaceutical companies such as Sanofi can do to change this paucity of clinical trials.
