    Somalia

    By Devex Editor // 06 November 2008

UNICEF and Amnesty International both say a 13-year-old girl who had been raped by three men was stoned to death by Somali fundamentalists last week. Swas stoned to death by about 50 men, watched by a crowd of around a thousand people in a stadium in the Somali port city of Kismayo. Her family members say the girl was going to visit her grandmother when three men seized her and raped her. After the child's family reported the attack to local Somali militia leaders, the child was accused of adultery. Eye-witnesses say she was buried up to her neck then pelted with stones until she died in front of more than 1,000 people. (Radio Netherlands, BBC)
