United Nations humanitarian chief John Holmes called for immediate access to a camp for internally displaced persons in Dafur. Aid workers are reportedly being prevented from entering the Kalma camp in the Sudanese region for nearly two weeks now. Thousands of IDPs took part in deadly protests within the camp following the completion of the latest round of peace talks in Doha, Qatar. Some groups claimed they were not represented during the peace negotations.
“I am extremely concerned about the welfare of the IDPs at Kalma camp, to whom we have not been able to deliver relief for 13 days,” Holmes said.
