Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou has promised an increase in aid for Haiti, doubling the country’s initial donation from USD5 million to USD10 million. He made the pledge at the Santo Domingo international airport in the Dominican Republic, where a Taiwanese shipment of 10 tons of disaster relief items for Haiti also arrived. Taiwan intends to fund construction of 200 housing units, which can accommodate as many as 1,000 people. That could increase to 1,000 housing units in the future, CNA reports.
