In Kenya and Uganda many fruit farmers were seeing large portions of their crops go to waste at the same time Coca-Cola Co., one of the world’s largest juice companies, was looking to source products locally but struggling to do so.
Into that landscape launched Project Nurture, a public-private partnership between the Coca-Cola Co. and Technoserve with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The project aimed to help farmers understand quality requirements from Coca-Cola, support local processors and establish key links to the multinational company.
Devex spoke with William Warshauer, the president and CEO of Technoserve, earlier this year about the partnership and the lessons learned about how to tackle supply chain challenges in a sustainable way. Watch the video above to learn more.
