    The top 10 global development employers of 2022

    An analysis of over 91,000 job postings from 2022 provides a snapshot of hiring trends for the new year, including who is hiring the most and what specialties are in demand.

    Over 91,000 job postings appeared on Devex’s job board in 2022. In what has become a New Year’s tradition of sorts, we’ve analyzed all of these postings from the past year to determine the most active global development employers, as well as which criteria was used to target the best fits from job seekers. Here is a closer look at the agencies that were the busiest recruiting in 2022, including the skills that were in demand and which experience levels had more opportunities to choose from. 1. UNICEF Jobs posted: 5,396 Remote opportunities: 12% Postings with salary: 13% The most active employer on Devex’s jobs board for the second-straight year, UNICEF’s postings were also the most evenly distributed based on career level, with 49% targeting mid-level candidates, 26% for entry-level workers, and 21% senior-level or above. However, a large majority of the postings were listed on a short-term contract basis. UNICEF is currently seeking a data collection officer in Egypt and a communication specialist in Denmark. World Bank Group Jobs posted: 3,892 Remote opportunities: less than 1% Postings with salary: 4% The World Bank was the only agency among the top 10 whose majority of postings were listed as long-term consulting roles (57%). It also had many more jobs available for senior-level (24.3%) and executive-level (5.5%) workers than any other top-10 organization. The bank is currently seeking many consultants, including a human resource specialist in India and a project assistant in Ukraine. View all openings. 3. United Nations Development Programme Jobs posted: 3,343 Remote opportunities: 22% Postings with salary: 1% UNDP offered the most internship opportunities of any top-10 organization and was the most flexible in terms of advertising remote jobs (21.5%). An analysis of hiring trends for climate and environment postings conducted late last year also found that UNDP was the most active hirer of these roles between January and October. The agency is currently seeking an economic advisor consultant in Saudi Arabia and a programme officer in Gambia. View all openings. 4. World Health Organization Jobs posted: 3,250 Remote opportunities: 14% Postings with salary: 68% Over 55% of the available positions at WHO were for mid-level workers, which was the most among the top-10 organizations, while the 20.1% targeting entry-level job seekers were the fewest. WHO was also, by far, the most transparent organization when it came to sharing public salary information (67.8%). WHO is currently seeking a technical officer in Switzerland and a finance officer in Mozambique. View all openings. 5. UN Refugee Agency Jobs posted: 3,185 Remote opportunities: 2% Postings with salary: 16% Of the U.N. agencies in the top 10, the UNHCR was the top employer for entry-level job seekers (43.1%), while it offered the fewest number of opportunities for senior-level workers within the U.N. system (6.7%) UNHCR is currently seeking an assistant development officer in Chad and a senior programme associate in Guatemala. Danish Refugee Council Jobs posted: 2,556 Remote opportunities: less than 1% Postings with salary: 17% Danish Refugee Council had the highest percentage of entry-level positions available at 65.6% while offering the fewest for senior-level workers (2.4%). DRC was also among the most active hiring in response to the crisis in Ukraine this past year. DRC is currently seeking a supply chain team leader in Tanzania and an English interpreter in Ukraine. Environmental Resources Management Jobs posted: 2,207 Remote opportunities: 6% Postings with salary: less than 1% Only a handful of the positions posted from Environmental Resources Management included public salary information (0.3%), though it offered the highest percentage of positions at the executive-level (8.6%). ERM is currently seeking a renewables ecologist in the United Kingdom and a financial accountant in South Korea. View all openings. 8. World Food Programme Jobs posted: 2,012 Remote opportunities: 5% Postings with salary: 9% More than half of the positions offered by the World Food Programme were on a short-term contract basis, and an overwhelming majority were for entry- and mid-level-positions (85.2%). WFP is currently seeking a logistics assistant in Ethiopia and a budget and programming officer in Sudan. View all openings. 9. UN Women Jobs posted: 1590 Remote opportunities: 17% Postings with salary: 3% An analysis of hiring trends for gender roles within globaldev's social inclusion sector conducted early last year also found that UN Women was the most active hirer of these roles between September 2021 and February 2022. The agency is currently seeking an evaluation specialist in the United States, and an expert trainer in Morocco. View all openings. 10. Food and Agriculture Organization Jobs posted: 1473 Remote opportunities: 7% Postings with salary: 4% The United Nations specialized agency to combat worldwide hunger, working in over 130 countries, has been one of the most active in response to the global food crisis this past year. Current opportunities at the FAO include a seed specialist in Italy and a project specialist in Pakistan. View all openings.
