Central Africa and southern Africa, two interconnected regions of the African continent, are characterized by geographical diversity, a rich culture, and a mixed economic landscape. In the midst of these, some countries in the region, notably the Democratic Republic of Congo, or DRC, and the Central African Republic, or CAR, are grappling with internal conflicts and political turmoil, leading to humanitarian challenges and significant instability that have impacted the lives of millions. Despite USAID funding cuts that immensely affected development initiatives around the world, with only 12 USAID staffers reported to be assigned to the whole of Africa, it appears that Central and southern Africa have not seen a severe impact.
Data from the Devex job board shows that since Jan. 24 this year, when the Trump administration first began its aid freeze, 218 jobs have been posted — a 14% decrease compared to the 252 jobs posted in the same period last year.
