The United Kingdom’s bilateral aid spending will bounce back sharply next year, its government has promised — but only after another 12 months of steep cuts.
A delayed budget sets out plans to distribute £1.58 billion ($2.07 billion) country-by-country in the current financial year — down 16% from £1.89 billion in 2022-23 — but pledges will rise to £2.69 billion in 2024-25.
Africa will be a big gainer in 2024-25, when it receives £1.36 billion, up from £646 million in this financial year, an allocation which is down from £762 million last year, the figures show.
