In support of the Indian government’s strategies to improve infrastructure in the power sector and push for rural development, the U.S. and Japan have committed to financing rural electrification projects in the Asian nation. The agreement, signed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) India Mission Director George Deikun and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Chief Representative in India Kikuo Nakagawa, will develop areas of alternative financing, speed up distribution reforms in the energy sector, enhance the capacity of energy professionals, expand knowledge and best practices in the industry, and launch projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
