    USAID funding freeze has disrupted the already reeling journalism world

    The USAID funding freeze has caused major disruptions for journalism organizations and independent journalists who rely heavily on these crucial grants.

    In recent weeks, journalists worldwide have received notifications that grants they intended to apply for have been suspended, and in some cases, funding for ongoing projects and fellowships has been abruptly halted.

    The USAID funding freeze has affected not just the aid world but also the journalism world, where in recent years, nonprofits have attempted to fill the gap left behind by the weakening of traditional media organizations.

    This year alone, the United States government allocated around $268 million to supporting “independent media and free flow of information.” The fate of that money is now uncertain.
