Webinar: A guide to consulting with EuropeAid

Landing a consulting gig with EuropeAid is no small feat. It requires a basic understanding of the framework contract and specific selection processes, as well as knowing the top contractors working with the agency. Senior development expert, Sibylle Koenig, joins Devex to share her tips for landing a consulting gig with EuropeAid, where she currently works as an EU joint programming key expert on a two-year assignment. Networking is key for consultants, she explains, and while this does require hard work and persistence, networking is especially important when it comes to getting your foot in the door at EuropeAid. “It’s crucial that you start reaching out to European Commission officials, planning for visits in Brussels, planning for relevant meetings with EuropeAid officials, and the relevant units you’re interested in,” said Koenig. She advises on attending events organized by the European Commission, such as the annual European Development Days, and looking for opportunities to present your work. “Show how you can — through your expertise — actually help the European Commission in achieving its goals and objectives on a day-to-day basis,” she added. During this webinar, Koenig tackles some of the key challenges consultants face, such as how and where to find out about short- and long-term expert opportunities, and how to approach contract negotiations.
