What interviewing technique is Abt Associates using to vet job candidates?

Abt Associates is recruiting for a wide variety of positions, and recruiters are turning to competency-based questions to determine whether a candidate is a good fit for a specific vacancy, according to International Recruiter Catherine Baker.

Abt Associates is recruiting for a wide variety of positions — from entry- to senior-level — according to International Recruiter Catherine Baker. A candidate who would stand out to Baker would be an “individual that’s not only technically strong but also has strong communication skills and you really get a sense that they’re a collaborative individual,” she noted. Although there is often a “gut feeling” about a good candidate for a certain role, Abt is trying to strengthen the interview skills of their recruiters, Baker said. The team is using targeted competency-based questions to provide a better portrayal of a candidate’s attitude toward work, people and life in general. Examples include whether they have strong business acumen or the ability to work well with upper management, Baker said.
