Mercy Corps has a new CEO. Path meanwhile has created new executive positions.
By Jenny Lei Ravelo // 07 September 2020Mercy Corps Tjada D'Oyen McKenna is Mercy Corps’ new CEO. She starts in the new role in October. McKenna has been the chief operating officer of CARE since May 2019. She previously served as COO at Habitat for Humanity International and took up roles within the U.S. Agency of International Development and at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. McKenna succeeds Neal Keny-Guyer, who led the charity for more than two decades. Keny-Guyer resigned last year over the charity’s handling of sexual abuse allegations involving one of the organization’s co-founders. ClimateWorks Foundation Economist Stephany Griffith-Jones joins the ClimateWorks Foundation — a global platform for climate philanthropy — as a distinguished fellow. Griffith-Jones has decades of experience in development finance, and has published books and studies on the topic. She will help in refining the foundation’s grantmaking priorities as a distinguished fellow, according to a news release. USAID Ramsey Day was sworn in as assistant administrator of USAID’s Africa bureau. Prior, he served in several senior posts within the agency. He also previously served as senior director for the Center for Global Impact at the International Republican Institute, and IRI’s country director in Jordan. PATH PATH announced the individuals who will be leading its newly created executive positions. Carla Costa Sandine, who served as PATH’s chief marketing and communications officer for nearly four years, is the new chief of external affairs. Dr. Nanthalile Mugala, who’s been leading the organization’s program in Zambia since 2014, will lead the new Africa region division. Philippe Guinot meanwhile will be the organization’s first chief of business and financial operations. United Kingdom Dame Barbara Woodward is the United Kingdom’s new ambassador to the United Nations in New York. She succeeds Karen Pierce, who’s now U.K. ambassador to the United States. United States The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation announced new members of its Development Advisory Council. They include Frederick Kempe, president and CEO of the Atlantic Council; Liz Schrayer, president and CEO of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition; and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former president of Liberia and currently co-chair of the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response. United Nations U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed new officials in key U.N. positions, including: - Hannan Sulieman of Sudan as assistant secretary-general. Suleiman will serve as deputy executive director of management for the United Nations Children’s Fund; - Sylvia Lopez-Ekra of Ivory Coast as U.N. resident coordinator in Morocco; - Allegra Maria del Pilar Baiocchi of Italy as U.N. resident coordinator in Costa Rica. The UN Refugee Agency meanwhile has named South Sudanese track and field athlete Yiech Pur Biel as a goodwill ambassador. KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation Last month Mustapha Gidado was officially announced as the new executive director of KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, after serving as interim director for months. Gidado succeeds Kitty van Weezenbeek, who left in May.
