The World Bank has appointed an accountability mechanism secretary, and an all-female group of experts make up the WHO Council on the Economics of Health for All.

Her appointment effectively kicks off the operations of the World Bank Accountability Mechanism established in September by the bank’s board of executive directors. The mechanism is meant to “reinforce” the bank’s accountability framework and will house its inspection panel and dispute resolution service, and was expected to become operational once an Accountability Mechanism secretary “is hired and begins work,” according to a news release. Székely is a lawyer and conflict-resolution expert who serves as senior strategic adviser and coordinator at the Executive Office of the Secretary General at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. WHO The World Health Organization announced the team of experts that make up its Council on the Economics of Health for All. Chaired by leading economist Mariana Mazzucato, the council’s work is to provide the WHO director-general advice on “on addressing interrelated health and economic challenges and mapping out a way forward that supports communities and countries to build healthy societies.” The inaugural council members are an all-female team composed of: • Senait Fisseha, director of global programs at the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation. • Jayati Ghosh, professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. • Vanessa Huang, general partner at BVCF Management. • Stephanie Kelton, professor of economics and public policy at Stony Brook University. • Ilona Kickbusch, founding director and chair of the Global Health Centre at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. • Linah Kelebogile Mohohlo, chancellor of the University of Botswana. • Zélia Maria Profeta da Luz, director of the Instituto René Rachou-Fiocruz Minas. • Kate Raworth, senior associate at Oxford University’s Environmental Change Institute and professor of practice at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. • Dame Marilyn Waring, professor of public policy at AUT University. The council may add other members, and Vera Songwe, undersecretary-general of the United Nations and executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, joins as a special guest, according to a news release. Center for Global Development Javier Guzman is the new director of global health policy at the Center for Global Development. He previously served as technical director of a U.S. Agency for International Development-funded program on medicines, technologies, and pharmaceutical services at Management Sciences for Health and served in different positions within the Colombian government. FIND FIND, a global nonprofit focused on diagnostics, has appointed Dr. Bill Rodriguez as its new CEO. He starts July 1. Rodriguez joins FIND from Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation, a global venture philanthropy firm, where he was managing director. He was FIND’s chief medical officer between 2015 and 2017. Kiva Microfinance company Kiva has a new CEO. Chris Tsakalakis, a board member of the American Heart Association, is taking over the organization’s leadership, succeeding Neville Crawley. Silvija Martincevic, chief commercial officer of Affirm Inc., is also joining Kiva’s board. United Nations U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed the following individuals to key positions: • Silvia Rucks of Uruguay as U.N. resident coordinator in Brazil. • Martin Griffiths of the United Kingdom as undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs, and emergency relief coordinator, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. • Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee of Ghana as assistant secretary-general for Africa in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Department of Peace Operations. • Lt. Gen. Birame Diop of Senegal as military adviser in the Department of Peace Operations. European Commission Christos Stylianides, former commissioner at the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations, is now the European Commission’s special envoy for the promotion of freedom of religion or belief outside of the European Union. CEPI Nicole Lurie is now the U.S. director at the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, while continuously serving as strategic adviser to the CEO of CEPI. Lurie previously served for eight years as assistant secretary for preparedness and response at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ONE Campaign The ONE Campaign has appointed African Leadership Institute CEO Jackie Chimhanzi and former Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb to its board of directors. US DFC The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation has announced its first senior officials focused on climate. Jake Levine, an attorney at Covington & Burling, comes on board as DFC’s chief climate officer, while Aparna Shrivastava, who worked as climate finance lead at Mercy Corps, serves as deputy chief climate officer. DAI James Watson, who served for 32 years with USAID in different senior positions, joins DAI as vice president for U.S. government programs
