A World Bank official in Ethiopia has confirmed that the bank and the Ethiopian government intend to pursue a follow-on initiative to the ongoing sustainable land management project, which was approved in 2008.

During a recent country assistance review, the World Bank management proposed an additional $190 million for the second phase of SLMP. The follow-on initiative will likely support the Ethiopian government’s program to provide second-level land certification across the country.

The representative added that since SLMP became effective in October 2008, other donors have expressed interest to invest in sustainable land management in Ethiopia.

This is part of the World Bank’s 2008-2011 country assistance strategy for Ethiopia. This strategy has been extended to 2012.
