The Canadian International Resources and Development Institute (CIRDI) is a coalition of The University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser University (SFU), and École Polytechnique de Montréal (EPM) formed as an independent, international Institute to assist developing countries to leverage the potential of their natural resources of minerals, oil and gas, into long-term sustainable livelihoods.
Their stakeholders encompass local, regional and national governments as well as communities and companies involved in the extractive sector.
Their shared objectives are that developing counties are able to:
CIRDI operates with financial support from the Government of Canada, through the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD), and with contributions from our strategic partners. CIRDI undertakes projects funded by DFATD, CIRDI partners and other development organizations.
