Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies (CHA)

The Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies (CHA)  registered under the Social Services Act is an association working in Sri Lanka and is a subsidiary of the Centre for Humanitarian Affairs CHA employs full time and commissioned personnel lead by sectional heads reporting to the Chairman and Board. Activities of CHA are carried out by programmes on Non-Profit Services, Equal Rights and Change, Disaster Management, Research, Information & Communication Services and Psychosocial Programmes. Its comparative advantages include: Long-term experience in collaborating with government departments, ministries, Sri Lankan and foreign diplomatic missions, and civil society. Strong expertise in influencing policy making and strategies at national level with a view to promoting and protecting human rights, and assisting communities in need. Experience working with marginalized communities, including minorities, migrants, and women-headed households at village, district and national levels; Proven expertise in providing legal aid through mobile legal aid clinics, addressing grievances and securing redress for violations at community level; Extensive experience in capacity building programs aiming to strengthen and empower members of communities, and address their protection and development needs Proven capacity in developing training materials and manuals, in conducting training programs, and in providing timely and effective training of CHA representatives and partners in the field; Advocacy and lobbying for human rights and humanitarian assistance; Providing advisory services to civil society, institutions, diplomatic, and international missions and agencies. Developing and disseminating human rights and humanitarian standards, guidelines, principles, and participatory working methods and approaches; Strengthening cooperation with the Media, in order to exchange information, ensure fair and objective human rights reporting and further develop TV and radio programs for easy access to information by people in rural areas. Target groups The mandate of CHA is ‘to secure dignity of life for all’ and prioritises human security through the delivery of products and services to access any area affected by disasters in the country by  directly assisting people in need , representing, advocating, educating and empowering national and local stakeholders and society.
