The International Organization of Ecology and Health or ECOSAN (until August 2004 - the International Fund of Ecology and Health) was founded in 1992 as a non-commercial, non-governmental organization.
PRINCIPLES
• correlation of ecology and health as main criteria in the sphere of policy, science, culture, medicine and production
• formation in Central Asia of ecological and economic system based on the principles of integrity of biosphere of the region, as well as its indivisibility;
• problems of ecology and health as main priorities on the way to international cooperation.
PURPOSES
• contributing to uniting efforts of governmental and nongovernmental and international organizations, scientists and specialists for a comprehensive study of pressing ecological problems, and development of scientific concepts and identification of priority directions of their research;
• participation in developing scientifically grounded ecological policy in Central Asia;
• formation of ecologically-oriented public opinion;
• education on ecological awareness and culture.
ACTIVITY PRIORITIES
• issues of environmental protection;
• health promotion, dissemination of ecological and sanitary and hygienic knowledge and diseases preventive activities;
• ecological education and training, informing population of the condition of environment;
• providing health and consultative, preventive and humanitarian aid to the population who live in environmentally unfavourable regions;
• organizing international conferences, meetings, workshops, symposia on topical issues of ecology and health protection of population;
• organizing international missions for studying and taking joint measures for improving socio-ecological condition in environmentally unfavourable regions;
• liaison with international organizations, financial institutions, foreign companies on issues of humanitarian cooperation;
• application of economic methods of management in the field of nature ptotection activity and ecologization of business;
• developing ecotourism.
STRUCTURE
The ECOSAN has 13 regional and Tashkent city branches, as well as representations in all districts and cities of Uzbekistan. Branches of ECOSAN have been created in a number of foreign countries.
