The European Coalition for Corporate Justice (ECCJ) advocates for European laws that guarantee corporate accountability and transparency, and ensure justice for victims of corporate malpractice. With 21 member groups representing over 250 organisations from 15 countries, ECCJ is the only European coalition bringing together campaigns and national platforms of NGOs, trade unions, consumer organisations and academics in order to promote corporate accountability.
ECCJ is guided by a vision of a sustainable world in which corporations’ drive for profit is balanced with the interests of society at large, and where businesses respect human, social and environmental rights. ECCJ was set up in 2006, and has established a coordination office in Brussels.
Strategic Plan
While global progress has been made in the past years on the awareness and understanding of key issues from the business and human rights area, the number of corporate abuses world-wide keeps on growing. ECCJ’s work is essential in bringing a united civil society voice to the EU debates on corporate accountability. ECCJ’s current four-year strategic plan (2013-2016) reconfirms the coalition’s advocacy priorities, articulated around three main work-areas: Access to Justice, Corporate Liability and Corporate Transparency.
An additional internal objective has been added on coalition building, reasserting that the strength of ECCJ lies in its capacity to coordinate and mobilise its members and allies.
Finances
ECCJ is funded by membership contributions and external funding. Current funding for ECCJ is provided by: the Sigrid Rausing Trust, the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund, SOMO, Misereor, Brot fur die Welt, and the GoodElectronics Network.
