About

The Haitian Red Cross was founded May 29, 1932 under the honorary presidency of the Head of State SEM Sténio Vincent during a grand ceremony. On this day of May 29, the formation of the Board of Directors, chaired by Dr. Rudolph Charmant, who became the first President of the Haitian Red Cross, was approved.

The statutes adopted on June 2nd, 1932 provided for a "Consultative Council" composed of 100 members, in charge of electing the "Administrative Council". This council, elected for 5 years, was composed of a President, two Vice-Presidents, a Treasurer and six assessors. These statutes also provided for the creation of regional and local committees in each city of the country. The main aims were: the protection of childhood and maternity - hygienic and moral education, the fight against epidemics, the technical and professional preparation of aid for the relief of the wounded, the sick and those affected.

The National Society of the Haitian Red Cross is recognized by the Presidential Decree of 20 July 1932 as a public utility. It retains the autonomy of the public authorities, which enables it to act always according to the principles of the International Movement of the Red Cross. She was admitted by the International Federation on 19 September 1935 and was recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross on 15 June 1935.
