The Interfaith Action for Peace in Africa – IFAPA is a pan African process initiated in 2002 during Africa’s first continent-wide inter-faith summit meeting of religious leaders from the 7 major Faiths in Africa namely; African Traditional Religions, Bahai, Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity Islam and Judaism. Leaders of these faiths constitute the IFAPA governing body called the “IFAPA Commission” which seats after every two years.  IFAPA is genuinely rooted in the tested African traditions and approaches to peace making.  IFAPA envisions a conflict-free Africa developing in peace and harmony with people of all faiths in Africa. Its mission is to act positively to establish peace in Africa with the strength of all faiths through engaging all stakeholders including governments, civil society and the private sector. It builds on the religious core values of integrity, human dignity, equality, justice, respect and diversity or acceptance. Its purpose/mandate is to achieve PEACE in Africa. IFAPA’s priority areas are women and youth. Its main partners are the interfaith organizations and groupings, civil society including women and youth groups, governments and the private/business sector. IFAPA is governed by a Commission made up of 30 Commissioners. The Commission which is representative and strategically constituted meets annually to review and chart the way forward for IFAPA.
