The National Literacy Trust is a national charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK.
They work to improve the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in the UK's most disadvantaged communities, where up to 40 per cent of people have literacy problems. Their research and analysis make them the leading authority on literacy and drive their interventions. Because low literacy is intergenerational, they focus their work on families, young people and children.
Community literacy projects
Their community literacy projects run in the most deprived communities, inspiring and supporting children and families to improve their skills.
Campaigning
They campaign to improve public understanding of the vital importance of literacy and to ensure the Government takes action.
Their Words for Life campaign encourages parents from disadvantaged communities to support literacy in the home. Their Words For Life website provides ideas, competitions and free activities for parents and families.
Support for schools and other practitioners
They share their analysis, promote best practice and provide support and resources for schools, early years settings and local areas. Find out more about their membership network.
