ORBICON was established in May 2009 as the result of a merger between the environmental consultant Orbicon founded in 1859 and the building focused consulting engineering firm Leif Hansen Engineering founded in 1959. The company is a privately held 600-person multi-disciplinary firm providing consulting engineering services covering most areas within the natural environment and the built environment.

WATER RESOURCES
Integrated Water Resources Management. Orbicon has experience introducing integrated water resources management (IWRM) at all appropriate levels of society. This involves institutional aspects in terms of capacity building and training of staff and involved institutions, development of water management plans, development of management infrastructure as well as community level awareness and training.
Hydrological Monitoring and Surveys. Since 1917 Orbicon has been directly involved in handling the Danish hydrometric network. As a specialised data centre, the company offers expertise in:

Sludge Treatment. Orbicon has a distinct and valuable know-how and knowledge in the area of product and process technology concerning dimensioning, design, construction and operation of reed bed systems for sludge treatment. A reed bed sludge treatment facility provides long-term treatment of sludge produced in a waste water treatment plant by drainage, evapotranspiration and decomposition.
SOIL AND LAND
Contaminated Land. They provide assistance to private companies such as site owners, developers, vendors, investors, contractors, and insurance companies as well as public authorities on a wide range of consultancy services like risk assessment, inspection and monitoring, and remediation of contaminated sites.
Raw Material. Orbicon assists both the authorities and mining industries in exploring/extracting for raw materials such as sand, gravel, stones and clays.
NATURE PROTECTION
Rehabilitation of Rivers, Wetlands and Lakes. Orbicon provides professional expertise in all areas of rehabilitation of rivers, lakes and wetlands.
Sustainable Management of Natural Resources and Protected Areas. The company has particular experience in data handling, statistical analyses, and modelling. Orbicon also has broad experience in the implementation of international environmental agreements on natural resources management, particularly EU directives on nature protection and related conventions.
Natura 2000. Orbicon assists new and future EU member states in their efforts to implement the Natura 2000 network of protected areas - from the initial process of preparation of national lists of candidate Natura 2000 sites over final designation of selected sites to their future conservation and management.
Biological Monitoring. Terrestrial, fresh water and marine biological monitoring is carried out for national monitoring programmes and for investors as baseline studies.
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Orbicon has extensive experience in conducting environmental impact assessments for private and public customers - in Denmark and worldwide. They have carried out EIAs in relation to infrastructure, industry, energy supplies, and agriculture.
LOCAL DEVELOPMENT
Land Consolidation. Based on international best practice, Orbicon provides technical assistance to the development of national land consolidation and land banking programmes including implementation of pilot projects, development of strategies and capacity building.
Rural Development. Orbicon carries out technical assistance and analytic assignments as well as evaluations within the fields of rural development, agriculture, fisheries and food processing including food safety.
Evaluations and Analyses. Orbicon is specialised in carrying out evaluations, analyses and strategic assessments focusing on agriculture and rural development on the one hand and environment, nature and energy on the other.

Software Engineering and IT Solutions. Orbicon Informatics provides services to many types of clients such as local and regional authorities and private companies. The services rendered include on-line data bank access, software programmes and general data processing consultancy.
LandInfo. Orbicon provides an information management concept for use in land use planning, i.e. forestry, agriculture, protected area management, plantations and rangeland management. The concept, named LandInfo, is built on an innovative software package that combines the advantages of a GIS system with local modelling, activity planning and budgeting.
