• Mr. Wanyiri is a seasoned program management and leadership specialist with cumulative 16 years’ Sub Saharan Africa experience in policy dialogue, strategic design, governance, leadership, and operations management of donor and privately funded country and regional pro-poor multi-sectoral programs, using Markets Systems Development approach. • He has senior-level experience in diverse areas/ sectors including - private sector development, business environment strengthening, agriculture value chains, agribusiness development and financing, financial inclusion, climate-smart, renewable energy, dialogue and advocacy, and cross-cutting areas (youth, disabilities, women). • He has senior-level experience in regional program leadership and coordination, at strategic, operational, and technical levels. He has designed engagement strategies with stakeholders, managed Public-Private Partnerships (PPP’s), business models that address market constraints, piloted innovative trade and agriculture interventions, and leveraged investment sources to expand and scale-up. • Mr. Wanyiri has good experience in designing innovative strategies, solutions, and partnerships in various agri-business and investment promotion initiatives in various countries mainly in Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Tanzania and has designed, managed, and implemented impactful programs like IMSAR, ACCORD, SAGCOT, Kenya Markets Trust, Trade Mark East Africa, SAFE, HDIF, SOBA, and many others, impacting competitiveness, access to finance and growth of strategic partners/businesses. He has facilitated hundreds of thousands of smallholder farmers to be connected to high-value markets and increase productivity, quality, market standards, and incomes. • He has delivered projects in fragile and non-fragile states, impacting forcibly displaced persons and host communities through innovative, inclusive, and sustainable interventions. In Kenya, he initiated a collaboration between ILO and UNHCR to support business skills training amongst refugee communities and slum dwellers. In Northern Nigeria, he facilitated a value chain development and capacity-building program targeting displaced farmers, SMEs, and pastoralists around irrigation schemes. In Sierra Leone, he led collaboration with other partners to support internally displaced persons. • Mr. Wanyiri has developed impactful partnerships with development partners, Government agencies, farmer organizations, private companies, fintech and has led teams in sustaining and expanding country and regional projects across various countries in Africa. He fundraised £7.6m for an SME support project in Tanzania from DFID in 2008/9. He has written funding proposals, business cases, country strategies, blogs and presented in global conferences. • He has first-hand experience in developing and implementing value chains in both traditional and high-value sectors, catalyzing commercialization, climate resilience, investments, market linkages, and trade. • He has diverse skills in technical and management areas and has managed country and regional programs in multicultural settings. He has set up country programs, developed and managed technical and operations teams, and managed donor funds effectively. In Tanzania at DFID, he managed a portfolio of 10 programs with total funding of £80M. In TechnoServe Tanzania he managed USAID & DFID programs portfolio of $8M, managing a team of 22 staff and 7 partnerships. He has also designed and managed agriculture and market linkages programs funded by DFID/ FCDO, USAID, MasterCard Foundation, Irish Aid, World Bank, IFC, AfDB, and UN.
