Galen Lamphere-Englund

I am a senior research and innovation leader at the nexus of violent conflict, humanitarian, and digital rights issues. I have dedicated my professional life to promoting human rights and preventing violent conflict through research, advocacy, and the judicious use of cutting-edge technology. For over ten years, I have led research and policy projects for governments, INGOs, and the UN. - As a deeply inquisitive human, I am proud to have led investigations and programmatic work into countering violent extremism (P/CVE), humanitarian issues, and digital rights in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, the Balkans, East Africa, and across Europe and the US. - As a convener with a heartfelt belief in fundamental equality, I believe in leading through collaboration and mentorship. In my teams, we co-create collaborative, open environments where people are not afraid to experiment and audaciously, thoughtfully, design research through novel means. - As a leader with over 6 years managerial experience, I am skilled at handling diverse distributed teams across the world while overseeing budgets, strategy, and donor relations. Having worked with social impact teams at Facebook and Google.org and, more often, the likes of ONE Campaign and USAID, I am fluent in private sector tech and non-profit spheres alike. I also have a strong track record of successful proposal and business development. I have recently developed and led projects for, among others, USAID, GIZ, Facebook, Google.org, UNOHCHR, YouTube, the British Council, the Australian Office of Home Affairs, UNDP, UNESCO, MSI, DAI, and FHI360. Previously, I have also directly consulted and worked with a range of clients: the US Institute of Peace, Hedayah – the Center of Excellence in Countering Violent Extremism, the Refugee Affairs Division of DHS/USCIS, ONE Campaign, the International Rescue Committee, IMPACT Initiatives, and many others. I hold an MA in Public Policy from Central European University, an MA in Development & Public Policy from the Institute Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals, and BA in Global Studies from Arizona State University. While I call Alaska my truest home, I've worked, lived, and explored in over 80 countries.
