Irina Hauler

Irina Hauler is a Senior Expert with over 20 years of experience in climate finance, climate change adaptation, climate resilient agriculture and gender. She has specialist skills in agricultural resilience, nature-based solutions, climate and disaster risk finance and insurance, as well as loss & damage.  Irina works with a variety of  organizations to help them access and effectively utilize resources to tackle the challenges of climate change. She works with UN agencies, Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), international development organizations, major development charities, and international development agencies, as well as private and public sector entities, offering expertise in developing project concept notes and funding proposals for global financing mechanisms such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Global Environment Facility (GEF), and Adaptation Fund (AF). The projects are typically aimed at securing funding for initiatives that address climate adaptation in agriculture as well as nature-based solutions, with a focus on ensuring sustainability, resilience, and gender inclusiveness. Irina ensures that projects are aligned with the financing institutions’ objectives while addressing the unique vulnerabilities of regions or sectors. Separately, Irina provides support with GCF/GEF/AF accreditation to public and private sector entities; works on project implementation in the areas of climate change adaptation/climate resilient agriculture, nature based solutions, climate and disaster risk finance and insurance, and loss and damage. Irina has long-standing experience leading large multi-team, multi-country projects, providing technical guidance to large teams of technical experts; managing technical and financial/budgetary aspects of projects and being responsible for key project deliverables. Irina holds a PhD in Global change (climate change adaptation) from the University of Edinburgh, UK and MSc in Environmental Science, Policy and Management from the University of Manchester, UK. Irina is fluent in English, Russian and Armenian, and can read and write in Spanish.
