I am a WASH and M&E specialist with over 35 years' experience in Africa and Latin America. I led the Mvula Trust, the largest water sector NGO in South Africa, for over 6 years. Mvula works in partnership with the government, implementing water and sanitation projects and supporting policy and strategy development. Mvula piloted and then developed the implementation policies and procedures for the national sanitation programme, and was also a key player in the development of the first Sanitation White Paper, as well as in the 2003 Strategic Framework for Water Services. I was the lead Mvula person in all these activities and thus have extensive experience in the development of water and sanitation policy and of procedures for the delivery of services and management of programmes. I am also experienced at field level in designing, driving and evaluating low cost, demand responsive, rural water supply and sanitation programmes. I have specialist skills and knowledge of appropriate technologies, demand responsive, community managed programmes, participatory training and facilitation approaches and participatory M&E. My recent experience includes monitoring of rural and urban WASH (and other) projects funded by the EU in Africa, Latin America and Asia, using the Results Oriented Monitoring (logical framework) approach; leading WASH programme and project evaluations; case studies of rural water supply management models; and developing a rural sanitation strategy for Mozambique (current).
