Summary

Simon Ogwang is a senior public health expert physician specialised in health in humanitarian contexts, child health, public health, and health services management. He has 20 years' experience leading immunization operations, international health programs including health in emergencies, health systems strengthening, comprehensive primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare programmes, community health and health districts. Experience includes regional and national level health programmes' coordination, setting up successful emergency response systems for infectious diseases such as: Ebola in Liberia and Uganda; cholera in Uganda, South Sudan, and The Sudan; measles in Uganda and Liberia; rubella in Uganda; Windstorm, cholera, and floods in Sierra Leone; and influenza in Tajikistan. Simon Ogwang has hands on experience in oversight, execution and programming on large oxygen systems strengthening, designing grant proposals, oversight of large immunization operations, strategic and operational plans, monitoring and project evaluation frameworks, communicable and non-communicable diseases' control strategies. He has led disease outbreak investigations, research proposal writing, establishing therapeutic and supplementary nutrition programs, expert facilitation, data analysis and keen on health management information systems. He is frequently called on by consultancy firms, organizations to facilitate as master trainer in his areas of expertise and teaches at universities. Simon Ogwang is a Fellow of Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and a Fellow of Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH), London, UK. In technical leadership internationally: he has served as a consultant for strengthening oxygen systems, Health Specialist for UNICEF, Team Lead for immunization operations at WHO Sierra Leone, Health Adviser for Essential Health services and Field Coordinator for District Health System Strengthening programme for WHO Sierra Leone, and a Senior Health Adviser on the President's delivery team on Ebola recovery initiatives. In Liverpool School of Medicine, he has served as a member of a Board of Studies for Clinical Masters, member of all Programmes Board, and member of Staff and Student Liaison committee. He has served as a Student Advocate at Department of educational opportunities at University of Liverpool. He served as a member of technical advisory committee for an NGO Pilgrim in Uganda. He was a Senior Health Coordinator for International Rescue Committee in Liberia leading technical support to countrywide health programme during and after Ebola Viral Disease outbreak response, and then for revitalization phase of country health system. He also served as a Medical Epidemiologist Consultant at WHO in Liberia. He has published original research articles in peer reviewed journals and frequently makes presentations in scientific conferences. He has worked extensively to support, develop, initiate, implement, monitor, and evaluate health services and programmes for poor human populations in very hard to reach rural areas, districts, and at state levels nationally and internationally in Ethiopia, Liberia, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, Tajikistan, and Uganda.
