The Millennium Challenge Corp. will wait for the conclusion of Philippine national elections scheduled this May before deciding the fate of the country’s proposed compact, the agency’s board of directors agreed during a March 24 meeting. MCC CEO Daniel W. Yohannes said the agency will first assess the commitment of the country’s incoming government to the compact and MCC principles before making a final consideration of the agreement.
Also during the meeting, MCC board of directors, led by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, discussed the outcomes of the agency’s programs. So far, MCC has funded 21 threshold programs and signed 20 compacts, a statement from the agency said. Achievements of these programs and compacts include providing food security and productivity training to more than 112,000 farmers and supporting the ongoing construction of approximately 1,500 kilometers of access roads.
