Position summary & job purpose:

We are recruiting for an experienced Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency (CEEE) Specialist to be responsible for enabling the environment for advanced energy technology activities focused on the deployment of increased clean energy generation, increased adoption of energy efficiency measures, mini-grids, and off-grid solutions. The CEEE Specialist will report to the Director of Advanced Energy Technologies and support activities on increased adoption of energy efficient end-use technologies and Demand Side Management (DSM). This position is full-time, and hiring is contingent upon USAID approval. Interested candidates must be eligible to work in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Advancing Development and Growth through Energy (BADGE), a new USAID/Bangladesh energy activity, will improve energy security and resilience in Bangladesh by improving access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy systems and promoting transparent and efficient energy markets. BADGE will advance private sector investment, promote policy and regulatory environments favorable to the sector and investors, support entrepreneurs developing and distributing energy technologies, and convene platforms to share best practices in the management of the energy sector. Position responsibilities:

The responsibilities of CEEE specialist include but not be limited to:

  • Manage activities on enabling environment for advanced energy technology.
  • Manage tasks and activities related to energy efficiency and DSM such as:
    • Demonstrate opportunities for energy efficiency,
    • Support training and certification for energy auditors,
    • Build capacity of the private sector to implement energy efficiency projects and business models,
    • Prepare clean energy and energy efficiency projects for investments,
    • Help distribution companies design and implement energy efficiency and DSM programs,
    • Support adoption of modern energy services and advanced technologies such as micro-grids, electric vehicles, energy storage etc.
  • Support DCOP in the design, development, and implementation of the Work Plan.
  • Support all budgetary exercises necessary for the project.
  • Participate in meetings or calls with the clients to support Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential KSAs required (experience, skills, education, certification, etc.):

  • Masters’ degree (or equivalent) in engineering, energy policy, management, planning or related fields with 5+ years OR Bachelors’ degree (or equivalent) with 7+ years of progressive experience working on energy sector.
  • A deep understanding of, and experience working in, Bangladesh’s power sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with government officials and other essential power sector stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to build consensus and lead various energy sector stakeholders and/or project team members towards a common goal on adaptation of advanced energy technologies.
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of clean energy technologies, energy markets, energy policies, and adaptation of end-used efficient technologies.
  • Familiarity with current Bangladesh government regulations and incentives in renewable energy, energy efficiency and other advanced energy systems.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, and oral presentation) and preferably in Bangla.
