Duties and Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend (in-person) and take notes of intergovernmental and UN inter-agency meetings (e.g., meetings of the General Assembly Committees and of the Economic and Social Council).
  • Draft official documents such as background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, and inputs to publications.
  • Prepare weekly reports to be disseminated to the Regional Commissions.
  • Conduct analysis and research on regional trends and the regional dimensions of sustainable development.
  • Provide logistical assistance during conferences and meetings of the Regional Commissions.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications / Special Skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

  • Applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements:
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • No prior work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
  • Applicants must provide proof of current or completed enrollment in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. programme.
  • Candidates must confirm they are able to cover the costs of travel (including visa), accommodation, health insurance, and other living expenses for the duration of the internship.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.

Additional Information

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the internship location may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
  • Successful candidates should discuss specific visa requirements prior to accepting the internship offer.
