Job Description

Work Location

  • This internship is designed to be in-person and full-time (35 hours) but can be adjusted based on the request of the successful candidate.

Expected Duration

  • 2–6 months

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Internship in the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (OHRLLS) for two months, with potential extension up to six months.
  • Unpaid internship, primarily in-person at the New York duty station, with possible flexible or hybrid work arrangements.
  • Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under supervision of a staff member in the assigned office.
  • Daily responsibilities depend on the intern’s background, assigned office, and internship period. Duties may include:
    • Assisting in drafting and preparing official documents
    • Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings
    • Conducting document, legal, and internet research
    • Assisting during conferences
    • Working on web presentations
    • Evaluating projects
    • Compiling statistics
    • Conducting media analysis
    • Speechwriting

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or higher)
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
  • Field of study should be closely related to the internship applied for.
  • Applicants must provide proof of academic enrollment or completion.

Languages

  • English and French are UN Secretariat working languages.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of an additional UN official language is an asset (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish).

  • Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may need appropriate visas or work authorization.
