Participate in the Trade Policy and Facilitation Section (TPFS) of the Trade, Investment and Innovation Division of UN ESCAP.
Gain experience working with professional staff and experts on trade and trade policy.
Conduct research and analysis related to trade and trade policy.
Provide training and capacity building for policymakers and researchers.
Deliver advisory services to member governments.
Organize regional dialogues, meetings, and forums.
Focus on development needs of least developed countries and other countries with special needs.
Work under the supervision of a staff member, full-time (35 hours/week), remote or onsite.
Contribute to policy research on trade, digital trade, e-commerce, global value chains, multilateral and regional trade agreements, globalization, and trade-related regulations.
Undertake literature analysis, draft background and discussion documents, and policy notes.
Support the preparation of presentations and training-course materials.
Support data work, including identification of data sources, collection and analysis, and database maintenance.
Edit and format papers.
Support the organization of online or onsite events such as seminars, trainings, online courses, and meetings, including administrative, logistics, communication, and dissemination tasks.

Selection Criteria
Commitment to six-month internship (onsite or remote).
Degree or current PhD/postgraduate study in Economics or Law.
Experience in international trade, development policies, or trade-related/international laws.
Experience in data management, analysis, and programming (e.g., Excel, R, Python, web scraping, SQL).
Experience in regulatory analysis or trade agreement analysis.
Excellent drafting skills in English (academic style).
Strong media and communication skills (infographics, video, presentations, social media, copywriting, editing, formatting).
Qualifications/Special Skills
Enrolled in or completed a graduate program (second university degree or higher) or final year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s level).
Degree in Economics preferred.
Relevant training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that benefit the UN during the internship.
Candidates who have completed a 6-month internship in another UN Secretariat entity must have a different advanced degree to apply.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish).
