Duties and Responsibilities

  • Background:
    • The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations, founded in 1948.
    • Its mission is to contribute to the region’s economic and social development through policy design, monitoring and evaluation, advisory services, training, and support for regional and international cooperation.

  • Internship Placement:
    • Division: Sustainable Development and Human Settlements, Climate Change Unit, Santiago.
    • Duration: 2 to 6 months, depending on office needs.
    • Selection: Candidates may be selected on an “as-needed” basis throughout the posting period.
    • Supervision: Economics Officer José Eduardo Alatorre.
  • Intern Responsibilities:
    • Provide research assistance to the team.
    • Produce analytical, quantitative, and qualitative elements for documents and reports in the regular work programme or assigned tasks.
    • Collect climate change-related qualitative and quantitative data.
    • Survey literature on climate change impacts and policy responses.

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Education Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, public policy, or economics is required.
    • Master’s degree is desirable.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of econometrics is desirable.
    • Knowledge of a programming language is desirable.
    • Applicants do not need prior professional work experience but should have a field of study related to the internship.
    • Eligible candidates include final-year Bachelor’s students, Master’s or Ph.D. students, or graduates within these fields.

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required.
  • Knowledge of English is required.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
