Prospera is a A$259 million eight-year
program building on two decades of Australia’s support for economic governance
in Indonesia. Prospera incorporates 15 Australian Government agencies and
over 200 expert advisers and program staff from diverse backgrounds. Prospera
also collaborates closely with the Katalis program to realise the benefits of
the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.  
Prospera’s goal is to contribute to
strong, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth in Indonesia through three
breakthrough outcomes:  
Underpinning
these breakthrough areas are three enablers: capable and coordinated
institutions that support Indonesia’s development transition; gender equality
and disability inclusion are advanced; and government of Indonesia and
Australia partnerships strengthen. 
Prospera
delivers climate and energy activities as part of the policy and regulatory
workstreams of an Australia-Indonesia climate partnership. The energy
transition is a significant opportunity for Indonesia to create competitive
industries and jobs in pursuit of its 2045 ambition of becoming an advanced
nation. 
Prospera commenced in March 2018
and will conclude in February 2026.

Prospera is seeking
an Economist to assist its Macro Team in supporting the Government of Indonesia
(GoI) counterparts in shaping sound macro-fiscal policy and development
strategy to support strong, inclusive, and sustainable growth. The Economist
will bring strong economic analytic and policy assessment that reflects the
expertise and knowledge of economic policymaking, particularly in the
Indonesian context. The Economist will focus on a broad policy analytical
agenda with strength in macroeconomics, macroeconomic policy, and economic
development. 
The economist is
expected to provide expert input, produce analytical works, and work closely
with Prospera’s technical counterparts. Strong quantitative skills are
essential. Experience working in related areas in Indonesia or
emerging/developing country contexts is required.

It is expected that
the position will meet the following qualifications: 
• Master’s
degree in economics, public policy, finance, or related field(s). 
• At
least 5 (five) years of relevant work experience in economics, quantitative
analysis, and/or public policy. 
• Proven
expertise in economics evident in work experience. Experience in analysing the
Indonesian economy and/or other economies. 
• A
capacity to engage in all the following areas: 
o Macroeconomic structural reform related to industrial strategy and
market efficiency. 
o Fiscal policy—at the macroeconomic level and policy issues
regarding budget revenue, spending, and financing. 
o Financial sector policy, in particular on financial sector
stability. 
• Excellent
written communication skills with fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia (both
written and oral). 
• Proficiency
in data processing with statistical software such as STATA. Adept in the
Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). 
• Proven
ability to work independently and to take the initiative to progress
deliverables.
