Job Description
Democracy International (DI) is seeking to hire an
Elections Program Officer to provide support for ongoing projects of the Elections and Democracy Activity (EDA) in its project communities. Under the supervision of the Program Director, they will support the deepening of democracy in Liberia so that elected representatives can increasingly govern in the interest of their constituents. To do so, EDA is building the skills of future leaders to run for office and work on campaigns, support the institutionalization of civic education, and build the capacity of the election commission and civil society to manage electoral cycles.
This is a full-time position based in Monrovia, Liberia. This position is only open to Liberian citizens.
The Elections and Democracy Activity (EDA) is a five-year USAID-funded project designed to help Liberia overcome challenges facing its developing democracy by fostering inclusive, sustainable democratic political development. Implemented by Democracy International, Inc. (DI), EDA is cultivating a new cadre of accountable, diverse, inclusive leaders in Liberia to govern in the interest of their constituents and active, knowledgeable citizens that demand accountability. EDA works with the Government of Liberia (GOL) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to achieve this through three interrelated objectives:
- Increase leadership of marginalized groups in political processes,
- Improve civic knowledge and sense of civic duty, and
- Advance self-reliance of the National Elections Commission (NEC) and civil society organizations to independently manage and observe all stages of the electoral cycle.
Essential Job Duties:
- Manage and support implementation of activities related to support to the National Elections Commission (NEC) and civil society organizations to independently manage and observe all stages of the electoral cycle;
- Support capacity building and institutional sustainability efforts, including designing curricula and providing operational support as needed;
- Manage engagement and support of partners and operationalize partner events, activities, and networks;
- Manage participation in collaborative activities among partners and stakeholders, and facilitate exchange of information;
- Collaborate with team members across project objectives to ensure that all project activities and results are coordinated and mutually reinforcing;
- Coordinate with Grants Officer to ensure technical coordination and oversight of partner programmatic activities;
- Support M&E team to collect data on indicators as related to Objective; and
- Liaise with Home Office management team and contribute to reporting as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, political science, social administration, development studies, management, or other relevant field; Master’s degree preferred;
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience, including programmatic and/or technical experience working in elections and electoral processes, required;
- Experience with USAID programming preferred;
- Experience working with civil society and/or NGOs preferred;
- Experience working with Liberian government agencies desirable;
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple demands, prioritize, and produce high-quality work under pressure;
- Commitment to accuracy in all tasks and attention to detail and follow-up is essential;
- Demonstrated experience of successful teamwork and good communication and interpersonal skills;
- Displays respect for diversity and culture, gender, religion, race, nationality, and age sensitivity
- Professional fluency in English and working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools required.

- This position reports to the Program Director
