Background Information


The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is committed to ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely movement of staff and beneficiaries in support of its humanitarian and operational activities. In Lebanon, the Fleet & Movements Unit plays a critical role in coordinating transportation logistics, managing vehicle operations, and facilitating movement-related services.

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Resources Management and the direct guidance of the Senior Supply Chain Associate, the intern will support the unit’s daily operations by assisting in vehicle dispatch, movement coordination, and logistical arrangements. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in fleet management and movement coordination within a humanitarian context.

The intern will work closely with supply chain, finance, and administrative teams to ensure that transportation and movement services are delivered efficiently and in compliance with IOM procedures. Through this role, the intern will develop practical skills in vehicle tracking, fuel monitoring, vendor liaison, and logistical planning, contributing to the smooth execution of IOM’s field operations.

Responsibilities Supervision

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Resources Management in Lebanon and direct supervision of the Senior Supply Chain Associate; and, in collaboration with relevant units at Headquarters and the Administrative Centers.

Learning Objectives
  1. Understand movement coordination processes by assisting in staff and beneficiary travel arrangements, vehicle dispatch, and related logistics.
  2. Develop fleet management skills through monitoring vehicle usage, fuel consumption, and maintenance schedules.
  3. Gain experience in procurement operations by supporting the preparation of procurement documents, bid solicitation, and quotation reviews.
  4. Enhance financial coordination abilities by following up on deliveries, verifying invoices, and liaising with the Finance Unit for timely payments.
  5. Strengthen logistical planning skills by coordinating service requests for meals, accommodation, and other movement-related needs, ensuring timely fulfillment and effective vendor communication.
  6. Improve organizational and administrative competencies by assisting in the planning and execution of meetings, workshops, trainings, and events.
  7. Build adaptability and teamwork by contributing to various tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
Training Components and Learning Elements
  • Introduction to IOM’s Fleet & Movements operations and humanitarian logistics.
  • Vehicle dispatch procedures and movement coordination protocols.
  • Fuel consumption tracking and vehicle maintenance scheduling.
  • Preparation of procurement documents and bid solicitation.
  • Vendor communication and service coordination.
  • Invoice verification and payment processing with the Finance Unit.
  • Organizing logistics for meetings, workshops, and trainings.
  • Coordinating movement-related services (meals, accommodation, etc.).
  • Use of tracking tools and reporting systems.
  • Soft skills development: communication, time management, and teamwork.
  • Hands-on experience in coordinating staff and beneficiary movements.
  • Exposure to fleet monitoring systems and maintenance planning.
  • Practical involvement in procurement and vendor management.
  • Real-time tracking of service requests and logistical needs.

Qualifications Education
  • Final-year bachelor’s or recent graduate (within 12 months), or
  • Master’s student

Preferred fields of study Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Procurement, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or Economics

Experience

Having previous internship experience with an international organization is an advantage.
