Duties and Responsibilities

Background

  • The International Trade Centre (ITC) is the joint cooperation agency of the WTO and the UN for trade-related technical assistance.
  • Its primary objective is to assist developing countries and economies in transition to enhance their international competitiveness while taking advantage of market opportunities and increasing their exports.
  • The Human Resources Section has a transversal function in the organization, aiming to ensure ITC has the right quality of Human Resources with the appropriate skills and competencies to achieve its strategic and operational goals.
  • It seeks to provide staff with a supportive, challenging, and rewarding environment, enabling them to fulfil their potential and maximize their contribution to the organization.
  • This assignment is located within the HR Data Management and Analytics (HR-DMA) unit and will collaborate with all HR units.

Description of Duties/Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the HR Officer and overall guidance of the Chief HR, the selected intern will:

  • HR Data Management and Analytics Unit
    • Support the development of HR databases for ITC.
    • Input data into systems.
    • Collate information for reports, statistics, and analytics; conduct analysis of various HR indicators.
    • Support the visual design of data presentations and reports.
    • Draft communication materials.
    • Support drafting proposals.
  • Talent Acquisition and Development Unit
    • Support scheduling HR Talks and Briefings, including using CANVA for communication.
    • Collate data and statistics, particularly related to performance and learning.
    • Provide administrative support for projects such as Onboarding / Welcome Programme for Newcomers.
  • HR Administration Unit
    • Assist in preparing and compiling Consultants and Individual Contractors (CICs) reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with ITC’s internal standards and procedures.
    • Support the administration team with document management.
    • Assist in updating HR forms, as needed.

Qualifications/Special Skills

Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of the first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Have graduated with a university degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s equivalent) and, if selected, commence the internship within one year of graduation.

Desirable Work Experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience developing reports, statistics, and analytics, especially using visuals.
  • Experience using graphic design tools (or creative communications tools) such as CANVA.

Languages and Skills

  • Advanced English.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Planning and organizing skills.

Additional Information – Learning Elements
On completion of the assignment, the intern is expected to:

  • Gain meaningful work experience in human resources management and trade-related technical assistance to expand academic, professional, and personal learning.
  • Gain experience in the work of ITC and deepen knowledge and understanding of ITC’s goals, mission, and concrete implementation.
  • Gain knowledge and exposure to strategic communications and data presentation.

Intern-Specific Information

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
  • Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
