Job Description

Human Rights Internship – OHCHR SEARO, Bangkok

Work Location

  • In-person at the Bangkok office

Expected Duration

  • Full-time, 6 months, in-person

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support OHCHR in its mission to protect human rights, empower people to realize their rights, and assist duty-bearers in implementing rights.
  • Report to the assigned manager in SEARO.
  • Monitor and analyze human rights developments and trends in South-East Asia.
  • Research and draft internal and external notes and reports; prepare daily news updates on the human rights situation in the region.
  • Support SEARO’s engagement with UN human rights mechanisms, including Special Procedures and Treaty Bodies.
  • Assist with organizing workshops and seminars.
  • Maintain and develop information and resource tools; update information on the website.
  • Participate in meetings and conferences, take notes, and perform other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Competency: Applicants must be a student in the final year of a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program, or have completed one of these degrees; field of study should be closely related to the internship.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts (desirable)
    • Ability to design surveys and polls (desirable)
  • Language: Fluency in spoken and written English is required; French is a working language of the UN Secretariat.

Additional Information

  • This internship is based in Thailand.
  • Non-Thai citizens are responsible for obtaining a valid visa and employment authorization to undertake the internship.
