Job Description

Internship – ESCAP Subregional Office for East and North-East Asia (SOENEA), Incheon, Republic of Korea

Work Location

  • Incheon Office (In-Person Full-time)

Expected Duration

  • 3–6 months

Duties and Responsibilities

  • UNPAID, full-time internship (40 hours/week, 5 days/week) under supervision of a designated staff member
  • Support the North-East Asian Subregional Programme for Environmental Cooperation (NEASPEC) focusing on air pollution and desertification/land degradation
  • Carbon Neutrality and Air Pollution:
    • Assist in drafting and preparing meeting documents, background papers, presentations, and other communication materials for 2026 activities, including the Carbon Neutrality Forum and NEACAP Policy Dialogue
    • Provide logistical and organizational support for smooth running of events
    • Conduct desk research and compile background information to support discussions and reports
  • Desertification and Land Degradation:
    • Support a study on causes, drivers, and impacts of desertification and land degradation in North-East Asia
    • Assist in organizing a dedicated side event at COP17 of UNCCD for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration
    • Prepare knowledge products and outreach materials to highlight ESCAP’s role and disseminate key findings

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Applicants must meet one of the following:
    • Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate school programme (Master’s or equivalent or higher)
    • Enrolled in, or completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s or equivalent)
  • Field of study closely related to the internship is required
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and MS Teams
  • No professional work experience is required

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage

  • Interns are not financially remunerated
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions
