Geneva – Internship is designed to be full-time and in-person.

Expected Duration
Full-time for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months.
Expected start date: 1 Oct 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities
Located in the Right to Development Section (RTDS), Development and Economic and Social Issues Branch (DESIB), Thematic Engagement, Special Procedures and Right to Development Division (TESPRDD) of OHCHR.
Reports to a Human Rights Officer.
Supports the Human Rights Officer in implementing the mandate of the Secretary-General and High Commissioner on the realization of the right to development.
Tasks may include:
Conduct research and analysis on topics related to the right to development (e.g., international cooperation, trade and investment, development finance).
Prepare for and service meetings, seminars, and workshops: compile background materials, draft presentations, meeting notes, and summaries; research and invite speakers and participants.
Support annual and periodic events, including:
Annual session of the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Right to Development.
Two annual sessions of the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development.
Annual Human Rights Council Social Forum.
Other events organized by RTDS throughout the year.
Qualifications/Special Skills
No professional work experience required.
Field of study must be closely related to the internship applied for.
Applicants must be:
A student in the final year of a bachelor’s program, master’s, or Ph.D., or
Have completed a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. program.
Official certificate must be provided at a later stage.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Official UN languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish.
Intern Specific Text
Interns are not financially remunerated by the UN.
Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions.
Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may require appropriate visas and work/employment authorization.
Successful candidates should confirm specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
