Duties and Responsibilities
Office Background
Located in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD).
Focuses on strengthening international cooperation for social development, poverty eradication, productive employment, decent work, and social inclusion of marginalized groups.
Reports to the Communications and Logistical Team Leads coordinating secretariat support for the World Social Summit 2025 (Second World Summit for Social Development – WSSD2).
DESA serves as the Summit secretariat, supporting the Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs.
The Summit, to be held in Doha, Qatar (4–6 November 2025), builds on the 1995 Copenhagen Summit and aligns with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Internship Responsibilities
Produce summaries of meetings, events, and seminars relevant to Summit preparations.
Support content creation and dissemination:
Draft materials for social media and Summit website.
Develop key messages, visual assets, and promotional materials.
Assist with translation or review of content in other UN languages.
Assist with media and performance monitoring:
Track media coverage related to Summit themes.
Compile social media engagement and performance reports.
Support logistical coordination of Summit preparations:
Schedule meetings and prepare materials.
Track action points for timely follow-up.
Support task management tools for team collaboration:
Organize, assign, and update tasks.
Assist coordination of the UN Interdepartmental Task Force:
Maintain participant lists and send invitations.
Draft meeting summaries and follow up on agreed actions.
Support Information Management:
Compile and organize key documents, timelines, and deliverables.
Ensure logistical milestones align with Summit preparations.
Perform other related tasks as requested.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Enrolled in or completed a graduate program (second university degree or higher); OR
Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent); OR
Completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program within one year of selection.
Field of study should be closely related to the internship.
Professional work experience is not required.
Must provide official proof of academic enrollment or completion at a later stage.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of an additional UN official language is an advantage.
Official UN languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.
